Ghana is likely to go on lockdown if citizens refuse to obey the guidelines produced by Ghana Health in order to reduce the spread of the virus in the country.
As at now Ghana has recorded 134 coronavirus cases with 3 recorded deaths and health experts are suggesting to the government to order a temporal lockdown on the country.
And in case the government order for a lockdown, many are likely to find themselves wanting as no one will be allowed to step outside their home in an attempt to purchase or make a visit to a friend or even a relative .
As a regular Ghanaian, while you’re wondering if such lockdown will happen, below are some major commodities you must stock before the lockdown.
Gari should never run out in your home because it is the cheapest commodity if I should say. You can use it in place of banku since you could prepare 3ba with it, soakings and others.
PREPAID & WATER
To have a sound lockdown, is a must to have enough light and water backup.
Bag of rice & Bag of Beans
Rice is one of the common food item you have to stock if you really want to survive a lock down safe as Beans . Having about 2 bags of 50KG can survive your household for at least three months.
CASSAVA & CORN DOUGH
With your Cassava and Corn Dough, means you are really ready for the lock down because the content of these two paddies can sustain you for hours when is been prepared for meal. Stocking some bags of corn & cassava dough in your fridge can save your entire family from the lock down .
DRIED FISH (POPULARLY KNOWN AS KATE SCHOOL BOYS)
‘Keta School Boys‘ are sun dried salted Anchovies; commonly used among the Ewe tribe from Ghana. The salted, dried Anchovies are usually dry roasted and had with the ever popular spicy Ghanaian Salsa (known as Raw Pepper) with a hot steamed milled corn dumpling called Akple. Economically i think it can also sustain a lock down .
Didn’t want to add this but many could forget. Having these varieties in your home will keep the family alive. Domestically these two items are mostly use in preparing soup locally called Abenkwan. which is from Palm and Nkatekwan which is from Groundnut
GALLONS PALM NUT OIL
MILO, NIDO, SUGAR & SHITO
I know this four items are usually used in each household but this time, it is a must to stock them in large quantity.
GAS, CHARCOAL & FIREWOOD
We all know making cooking possible, one may need a flame from these sources depending on the situation you may find yourself. Having them in stock can really help during the lock down.
Excess of toiletries must also be part of the stock for a household.
With the above mention items, even if the Government of Ghana decided to order for a lockdown, i think there wont be any major problem in each individual household.
