Bheka Mthethwa – Supernal Sounds, master bassist turned vocalist born in Richards Bay, Northern Kwazulu Natal in South Africa. Bheka began his musical journey at the age of 10; playing keyboards at church and learning from his elder brother. By age 15, he had developed great interest in the bass guitar and started teaching himself by listening to Gospel music and R&B recordings. In pursuit for deeper knowledge and experience, Mthethwa has attended the annual standard Bank national youth Jazz Festival in Grahamgtown. He later worked with the University of Kwazulu Natal students band at the SAJE(South African Jazz Education) Conference. Today Bheka Mthethwa has become a nationally in-demand and highly influential session bass guitarist, as well as a successful artist, composer, producer, musical director and arranger.
The number of artists and projects Bheka has been involved with include; Sibongile Khumalo, Joyous Celebration, Judith Sephuma, Benjamin Dube, Ernie Smith, Dr. Tumi, Ray Phiri, Khaya Mthethwa, Liquid deep, Micasa, Vusi Mahlasela, Jabu Hlongwane, Simphiwe Dana, Mthunzi Namba, Ntokozo Mbambo, Nqubeko Mbatha,Siphokari, Swazi Dlamini, Proverb, Tshepo Mngoma, Brian Themba, Lucas Senyatso, AKA and International stars like Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin and Joe Mettle. Other projects that have used Bheka’s services as bass guitarists are; Metro FM Awards(2011); the ANC 100 years celebration Centenary event(2012); SA Sport Awards (2012 & 2013); the SABC National Television Gospel Music Talent Search- “I want to sing Gospel”, SABC Gospel Classics & Nelson Mandela’s Memorial service at Soccer City. Bheka Mthethwa has also toured the United Kingdom(London, Birmingham & Manchester) where He performed alongside Lebo Sekgobela, Ntokozo Mbambo, Benjamin Dube and other Uk Artists. Mthethwa released his first single album entitled “Ubusisiwe” in December 2014. This has recently been followed by the single “Gelekeqe” towards the debut album “Supernal Sounds”.
